Quinnipiac District
Serving Bethany, Branford, East Haven, Guilford, Hamden, Madison, Meriden, Milford, North Branford, New Haven, North Haven, Orange, Southington, Wallingford, West Haven, and Woodbridge
Welcome to the Quinnipiac District! We are proud to bring Scouting’s mission and adventures to young men and women across the 16 communities we serve in New Haven and Southern Hartford Counties. As district leaders, our goal is to support strong units and ensure that Scouting continues to thrive in all of our communities. We work closely with chartered organizations, community partners, and families to organize, support, and grow Scouting units. We invite you to join us on the adventure of Scouting.
The name Quinnipiac (pronounced KWIHN’-ih-pee-ak) comes from an Algonquian phrase commonly translated as “long water land” or “long tidal river.” It refers to the Quinnipiac River and the fertile lands along Long Island Sound where the indigenous Quinnipiac people lived. European settlers later used the name to identify both the river and the people, who referred to themselves by local bands or more broadly as Renape, meaning “the people.” Our name also references the former Quinnipiac Council, whose footprint closely matches that of our current district. Our district was formed by bringing together several long standing Scouting communities, united under one name and one mission. Today, we operate as a single, collaborative district—focused not on where we came from, but on the strong Scouting future we are building together. By working together as one district, we strengthen our units, support our volunteers, and deliver the promise of Scouting throughout our communities.
Yours in Scouting,
Joseph Ushchak, District Chair | Karl Helff, District Commissioner | Mark Kennedy, District Executive
